Parent Therapy & Parent Counseling Services

The therapists at Bridge Builders believe that all children are capable of learning positive behavior and that parents can help facilitate this process by learning and modeling certain principles for behavioral change. We believe that confusing parents often end up with confused children.

Our therapists may work conjunctively or independently with the child and his or her parents in order to bring about the most significant change. The parents are encouraged to actively engage in brainstorming with the therapist about the best possible method(s) for these solutions, as the parents know his or her child the best. This gives parents the opportunity to share progress or problems the child is having at home and school. Our therapists guide parents through solutions to these problems and encourage the parents to implement the suggestions mutually agreed upon in session.

There is also an educational component to this; the therapist will direct the parents on effective parenting strategies, including understanding how to correctly implement rewards and consequences. Individual parenting sessions will provide the parent with insight into the root of the problem, feedback about parenting strategies implemented, and encouragement and support to continue with the change and progress made.

Also, in the near future we will be offering support groups for parents regarding topics such as divorce, effective parenting strategies, special needs issues, single parenting, etc.
